LAWRENCE, Kan.– A 29-year-old police officer crashed his car into a pole early Wednesday morning and died from his injuries.

Police say Matthew Klock was off-duty at the time and was driving down West Sixth Street and Wakarusa Drive at about 2:15 in the morning when he slammed his car into a traffic signal pole. No other cars were involved in the accident, according to police.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is handling the investigation. Klock had been a member of the Lawrence Police Department since 2007.
