KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A man remains missing after he reportedly fell into the Missouri River. Witnesses saw him dangling off the Heart of America Bridge in Kansas City, Mo.

One witness said an officer tried to keep him from going into the water.

“After talking to the officer, he said he slipped out of his arms, fell down, I’d say approximately about 100 yards from us,” Michael Scott said. “He was swimming and then he went under and nobody seen him anymore.”

Scott said he asked the officer what happened.

“He showed me all the scars on his arms. The guy, I guess, he was trying to hold on to him and then I guess he couldn’t hold on to him anymore and he fell in the water.”

James Garrett with the Kansas City Fire Department confirmed they responded to the scene after receiving a call just before 3 p.m.

Officers spent several hours searching the river but eventually called off the search and pulled their boats out of the water.

No other information has been released at this time.
