ROUSES POINT, N.Y. — A lot of employers have dress codes for workers, but now a store in New York has a dress code for customers. The store doesn’t want customers to wear hats, sun glasses or hoodies while shopping.
Now, some customers who use Cornerstone Drugstore are complaining. The store owner says they’re trying to prevent crime not discriminate against people.
“I really don’t think it’s a big deal if it’s going to make everybody feel safer, why not?” said shopper Maria Canty.
Another customer agrees.
“If a person comes in dressed that way, with the hood, glasses and the caps and if they don’t like it, then leave,” said shopper Phyllis Young.
The store implemented a customer dress code after two nearby Walgreens stores were robbed. Most shoppers say it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Store owners say they won’t call police on every person wearing sunglasses.
