KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A seven-year-old girl is recovering from being shot in the hand while inside her south Kansas City home. Police say the shooting suspect is the girl’s father.
Police say that little girl will be okay, but it was a tough scene to pull up to. That’s because police say the girl ran outside, bleeding, and jumped into an officer’s arms once they arrived at the scene.
Just after 11 o’clock Sunday morning officers received the call regarding the shooting, which took place at a small white house in the 8400 block of east 93rd Terrace. Officers on scene said when they pulled up, a little girl ran out and jumped into their arms, while a man, who they believe is her father, came outside with his hands up.
Investigators say they’ve arrested the girl’s father, recovered the gun, and the little girl is recovering at a nearby hospital. Police are working to learn more about what caused what they’re calling a likely domestic situation.
“That’s what we’re looking into. We’re looking into whether, there are a lot of specifics that the detectives have to view and see what we can go through. That’s why everything’s under investigation,” said Capt. Mark Termen with the KCPD.
Sources say the man may have been high on drugs at the time of the shooting.

On Sunday FOX 4’s Megan Dillard spoke to a woman who lives down the street from the home where the shooting happened.
Marie Sirls said she came home from church to her street roped off with crime scene tape.
“The street was all blocked off. I asked one of my neighbors what happened. They said a little seven-year-old got shot. I said, ‘What? Oh no,'” she recalled.
Sirls said, “Little girls are just precious. Little girls that need for us to mold and get them ready for this because, as you see, it’s unpredictable what’s going to happen.”
Sirls, with eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren of her own, called the shooting unthinkable.
“For a little girl to get shot by her father, oh my God. Seven years old, that’s just hard,” she said.
Sirls also thinks she can offer a solution.
“They need some Jesus in them, honey! The family needs some Jesus, that’s for sure!” said Sirls.
