KANSAS CITY, Mo. —The death of a one-year-old KCMO girl has been ruled a homicide according to Kansas City police.

A Kansas City, Mo. woman faces felony child abuse charges in connection to the case. Donniesha Lee

According to court documents, Donniesha Lasha Lee was drinking and holding the child—identified only as “DLF”—on her chest. Lee allegedly struck the child repeatedly as she told the child to be quiet. Authorities say that others at the home in the 6900 block of 119th Street asked her to stop and give them the child, but Lee allegedly refused.

The child was later taken to a metro hospital, but died shortly after.

Lee, 19, has been charged with first-degree child abuse and domestic assault charges, Jackson County prosecutors said in March. Prosecutors could upgrade the charges.

Prosecutors have requested a $250,000 bond in the case.
