DESOTO, Kan. — A group of DeSoto High School band students and parents came down with a case of food poisoning during a trip to New York City, the district says.
According to the district, 100 band students and 30 parents and teachers were in New York for a performance over the weekend. During the trip, the group stopped to eat at an Italian restaurant. A short time later, several students began showing symptoms of food poisoning, including vomiting and diarrhea.
The buses of students stopped at a Pittsburgh, PA, hospital, where 25 were treated for dehydration and other food poisoning related problems. Even more students and adults were showing symptoms, but did not require treatment.
Officials say that the hospital contacted the New York City Public Health Department, and the restaurant will be investigated.
The students are expected to return to DeSoto on Thursday.
