KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs’ fans are optimistic about the future, but for now they are disappointed by the current season.
The mood was serious during the Chiefs Kingdom Radio Show on Monday nights. Fans and people close to the Kansas City Chiefs are disappointed that the team isn’t living up to expectations. They’re also sorry that Todd Haley won’t be the coach taking the team to the top.
Haley was fired on Monday by the Chiefs organization.
Haley is only the second coach in franchise history to be fired mid-season. Fans say they weren’t surprised.
“Tonight we move on,” said announcer Mitch Holthus. “We move on hopefully to a time of winning and winning consistently and winning divisions.”
Hal Wagner is a Chiefs fan and owner of Ace Sports. He says the team is so bad that he’s had to discount all Chiefs apparel by 50 percent to move it off the shelves.
“I live and die by the Chiefs,” Wagner said. “I’ve been really disappointed all year long but there’s always hope and there’s always tomorrow and next year will hopefully tomorrow.”
Chiefs GM Scott Pioli says that inconsistency was a major factor in the decision. He told fans at 810 WHB’s live radio show what he’s looking for in the next coach.
“I understand theres people out there who have great desires to be a head coach in the NFL,” said GM Scott Pioli. “I think it’s very important that he wants to be the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.”
Pioli asks fans to keep the faith to which many say they just hope there are better options.
“On one hand their happy because he’s fired,” Wagner said. “On the other hand, they’re nervous because they are afraid of who’s coming next.”
Todd Haley is the first coach to ever show up at the live broadcast of the Chiefs Kingdon Show on 810 WHB. They say he was first coach to really make an effort to interact with the fans.
