RIVERSIDE, Mo. — Prosecutors and attorneys have reached a plea deal in the speeding and drug charges against a Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver. Dwayne Bowe pleaded guilty to lesser charges of ‘defective equipment’ and ‘littering.’ He paid fees and fines totaling $610 as part of the plea deal.
A Riverside city prosecutor and a defense attorney spoke to the media Wednesday afternoon regarding the case for 29-year-old Bowe. FOX 4 tried to ask questions to learn more about those ‘defective equipment’ and ‘littering charges,’ but beyond the quick three-minute statement, neither party would take questions.
The prosecutor said Bowe provided valid insurance and a valid ID to the court in addition to the $610 payment.
A Riverside police officer stopped Bowe for speeding last November. When the officer pulled the car over, he smelled marijuana and used a drug dog to search the car. The officer found a backpack with two containers that were believed to contain marijuana. Bowe and passenger George Thompson were arrested. A ‘third passenger’ was not arrested.
Bowe did not make an appearance Wednesday afternoon. He said in previous statements that he was ‘racially profiled,’ but took back that statement last Friday. He said ‘instead’ he was treated with respect during the stop. His attorney said the investigation did not end in the discovery of any marijuana.
