KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The 18th annual Kansas City FilmFest kicks off on April 5th at the Alamo Drafthouse in the Power and Light District and at the Cinemark Palace Theatre on the Country Club Plaza.
This year’s festival will feature more independent and daring films, including showings of the Sundance Jury Documentary Award-winning film, RICH HILL; THE SUBLIME AND THE BEAUTIFUL, presented by writer/director/actor Blake Robbins; Oscar® and his new film CHEATIN’; and Kansas City native Chad Troutwine will attend a showing of award-winning GORE VIDAL: UNITED STATES OF AMNESIA.
Famed animator Bill Plympton will receive the festival’s Indie Pioneer Award on Saturday, April 12th.
The Kansas City FilmFest is an annual, juried film festival featuring more than 100 local, regional, national and international films, held in April each year, and proudly presented by the Kansas City Filmmakers Jubilee. Throughout its history, the FilmFest has brought in more than 200 top filmmakers from around the world to share their work and insights.
The Kansas City Filmmakers Jubilee unites Kansas City area educational, cultural and film organizations to celebrate local independent filmmaking, to enhance opportunities for filmmakers to develop their craft and art, and to increase the public’s awareness and support of local filmmaking as a cultural and economic asset.
