KANSAS CITY, MO.
CinemaKC, a local non-profit organization that works to promote film and filmmaking in our community, will present a free month of feature-length animated movies geared for the entire family.
The inaugural “KC Summer Animated Series” begins this Saturday, August 2nd at 10:30am at the Screenland Crown Center Theatres.
The goal is to “introduce and reintroduce families and animation fans to classic and new animated cinema from here and abroad.”
There’s the lineup for this summer’s festival:
-August 2nd
“An American Tail” (1986)
Filmmaker Don Bluth’s adventure story tells the tale of Fievel Mousekewitz, a rodent whose family escapes Russia and flees to America in the 1800s. Robert Butler, former film critic for the Kansas City Star, will lead a discussion.
-August 9th
“Short Films from Around the World”
This collection includes the work of students from the Kansas City Art Institute. The young filmmakers will be on hand to discuss their movies.
-August 16th
“Ernest and Celestine” (2014)
This Oscar nominee will be presented in the original French with English subtitles. There will also be a short program presented by Academie Lafayette.
-August 23rd
“The Secret World of Arrietty” (2012)
An acclaimed film from noted Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki will be presented in the original Japanese with English subtitles. There will also be a short cultural program presented by the Japanese America Society of Kansas City.
All screenings will be at the Screenland Crown Center, 2450 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, MO.
The mission of CinemaKC is to “Increase awareness, recognize talent and achievements and build audiences while groaning the reputation for quality studio and independent motion pictures by the professional community in Kansas and Missouri.”
