TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (PG-13)
Paramount

RUSS

While it feels like a mash-up of every genre cliché, this reboot of the 80s comic book franchise is action packed and has terrific special effects. It should please it’s demographic of 7 year olds and those looking for a little nostalgia.

SHAWN says: Awful and forced. The tone is anti-playful. The execution worst than cold stale pizza.

2) THE MAZE RUNNER (PG-13)
20th Century Fox

RUSS: The latest post-apocalyptic dystopian teen novel to be adapted to the big screen has teens forced to survive in an elaborate maze. It’s derivative, but well directed and involving. The fresh-faced newcomers on both sides of the camera deliver.

SHAWN says: Painfully unwatchable. Predictable and trite. Juvenile filmmaking and childish tone.

Warner Brothers

Insufferable siblings reunite after their father’s death and quirky hijinks ensue in the comic drama, “This Is Where I Leave You.” The hit-and-miss humor is derived from raunchy behavior, but the sharp cast gives this obvious and familiar tale a big boost.

SHAWN says: Fussy but fun.
