(CNN) — It didn’t take long for the tweet to ping around the world.
“Its official. Pregnant…” said the three simple words.

But coming from the verified Twitter account of a troubled actress whose every move elicits intense scrutiny, they were enough to send the Internet into a tizzy.
Shortly after the tweet appeared on @lindsaylohan, it became a worldwide trending topic. Within an hour, it had been retweeted more than 9,000 times.
Was it an April Fool’s joke?
Very likely.
It was, after all, 10:35 p.m. April 1 on the Pacific Coast when it was posted.
But that didn’t stop the snickering.
Some poked fun at her well-publicized battle with booze.
“Lindsay Lohan tweeted she’s pregnant, which is great because now she’ll have someone to get drunk with,” tweeted Emmerson McGinnis, a writer.
Others just couldn’t contain their (faux) surprise.
“LINDSAY LOHAN IS NOT PREGNANT IS SHE NO STOP REALLY HAHAHAHHA SHUT UP OMG WHAT LOL HAHAHAHHAHAHAH CAN’T CONTROL IT HAHAHAHAHHA WHAT LOVE IT,” wrote Dominic Riccitello.
Then, there were those who thought that if true, it could actually be a wonderful thing for Lohan.
“It can be a beautiful chapter in your life if you’re ready for it!…It can’t be about Lindsay anymore. Bless,” said Lyriq Bent, whose Twitter bio lists him an actor.
Lohan has spent 250 days in five rehab facilities since January 2007, including one long court-ordered stint after a failed drug test.
She has appeared in court at least 21 times before four Los Angeles judges who have now found her in violation of probation six times and sentenced her to a total of nine months in jail.
And she has spent about two weeks behind bars in six trips to the Los Angeles County jail, served 35 days under house arrest and worked about 67 days of community service at the county morgue.
She is dating Avi Snow, the guitarist with City of the Sun.
