LOS ANGELES — The producers of “The Simpsons” recently revealed that one of the big characters will be killed off this season which will mark the 25th season of the animated series.

Executive producer Al Jean revealed the upcoming death in an interview with The Sun News.

“I’ll give you a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won’t say who it is,” Jean said.

Nine people have won Emmys for voice over work on The Simpsons, including the entire main cast, Hank Azaria, Kelsey Grammer and Anne Hathaway.

Death has happened before on the long running comedy series.  Remember “The Simpsons” famously killed off Maude Flanders, the wife of the Simpsons’ neighbor Ned, in the Season 11 episode “Alone Again, Natura-Diddily.”

Other “Simpsons” characters who have perished include Dr. Nick Riviera, Bleeding Gums Murphy, Frank Grimes and Dr. Marvin Monroe.

Right now, the producers are not giving any clues as to which character might give the big goodbye, so it’s anyone’s guess at this point.

“The Simpsons” airs Sundays  at 7:00 p.m. on FOX 4.
