KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An entire Kansas City, Missouri street got a makeover on Saturday, as Habitat for Humanity Kansas City and dozens of Burns & McDonnell employees helped give 17 homes a face lift.
And it didn’t cost homeowners a thing.
More than 100 volunteers did landscaping, home repairs, and put fresh coats of paint on homes at 34th and Flora in Kansas City, Missouri.
“There’s a lot of homeowners that haven’t had a lot of work done on their houses in many, many years,” said Jessica Ray with Habitat for Humanity Kansas City. “Our goal at Habitat is not only providing new houses or rehabbed houses but also to help keep people in their homes.”
Brenda Armster has lived in the neighborhood since 2006. Her home was one of the 17 chosen for a makeover.
“They’re finishing up a deck and some of the lattice…kind of cleaning that up. They’re doing some landscaping,” said Armster.
She said she couldn’t believe the costly repairs wouldn’t cost her a thing.
“I was like wow for free?,” said Armster. “Got to be a gimmick or something, right?”
Burns & McDonnell recently presented Habitat for Humanity Kansas City with a check for $125,000, funded entirely by employee-owner donations.
