KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals and first baseman Eric Hosmer agreed to a two-year contract on Wednesday, reports say the deal is valued at $13.9 million. The Royals have now signed all arbitration eligible players, Hosmer had a hearing scheduled for Thursday before the deal was agreed to.

Hosmer started slow in 2014, reaching a low point by hitting for a .195 average in June. He bounced back in July before a hand fracture sidelined him for about four weeks in August. His strong second half raised his batting average from a low of .246 up to .270. He also hit nine home runs and drove in 58 runs last season. He played strong defense, winning his second consecutive Gold Glove at first base.

He was instrumental in the Royals run to the World Series, driving in 12 runs throughout the playoffs and posting a . 351 batting average. His triple in the bottom of the 12th inning in the Wild Card game against the Oakland Athletics was key to completing a comeback against Oakland. He scored to tie the game at 8 before Christian Colon came home on a Salvador Perez single to win the game.

The first baseman is eligible for arbitration again ahead of the 2017 season and won’t be a free agent until 2018.
