KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Airport security is not taken lightly and a breach of any kind is taken seriously. A man working at the airport says a simple breakdown in communication led to his arrest. The man says he was just trying to do his job.
“We call the airport police and let them know we are going to be operating the carousels using the emergency stop button,” said Jonathan Jobe with Turn Back Marketing.
Jonthan Jobe and his wife did the same thing Monday night. After the last flight arrived, they got to work. They work for Turn Back Marketing. They maintain and replace the advertising on the luggage carousel. They’re used to KCI police stopping by, but this time was different.
“He makes it seem like he wants us to stop, like we were unauthorized to be there and the next thing we know there’s more officers coming over,” Jobe said.
He says the officer took that as aggression and told him to stop. Jobe tried to make a phone call and the officer didn’t let him.
“I did what any American would do, I started to get a little frustrated with him,” he said.
An hour or so later, Jobe was released from KCPD’s Shoal Creek station. Looking back, he says he and the officer could’ve handled things better and he hopes it won’t happen again.
“I would just like us to work together as a team,” he said. “We need to get up there, get our work done and get out of there so we’re not in their hair all night.”
An airport spokesperson told FOX 4 on Tuesday that security is a priority and under the luggage carousels is a secure area, so the officer’s initial reaction was expected. He said both sides will work together to keep the situation from happening again.
