KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Free groceries, clothes, health services and haircuts were offered to people across the metro on Saturday morning. Volunteers from 50 area churches partnered with the Convoy of Hope to provide a poverty free day for thousands of honored guests.
Derrell Thomas received the royal treatment. He received a new pair of shoes along with a foot massage.
Eryq Stigger went to the event for a trim with all the trimmings.
“I will probably get some clothes and shoes and go to the kids zone,” Stigger said.
There were no stipulations of guests on Saturday. They didn’t have to fill out any paperwork. If they needed help, they got it.
“We’ve seen working people come saying we are having a hard time holding things together,” said Dawrwin Boston.
The humanitarian event is designed to make people forget about finances for the day and regain hope for the future. Lisa May is one of 2,000 local volunteers. She ministered to the body and soul.
“It makes me feel that I’m contributing to what God would have me do so it is my pleasure and a joy for me to do this,” May said.
The plan is for hope to linger and the cycle of poverty to have taken a hefty blow.
