ATCHISON, Kan. – Nearly 2,000 mourners, including law enforcement officers from Kansas and Missouri, gathered in Atchison on Thursday to honor fallen police officer David Enzbrenner, who was shot and killed in the line of duty last week.

Sgt. Enzbrenner was shot and killed by Skyler Barbee on December 9th while he was helping to serve a nuisance order on an Atchison home. Barbee then killed himself.

But on Thursday, it was all about the life of the man known by his friends as “Super Dave,” who served the Atchison community for 24 years.

“We don’t need to tell anyone what a great guy he was, everyone knows that. Just know to us, you will always be Super Dave,” said friend Jim Bolt.

Another friend, Rick Falk, says that the Enzbrenner family along with his coworkers have the support of the community.

“They know we’re all here and if they ever need anything, we’ll always be here,” said Falk.

Enzbrenner is the first Atchison police officer to die in the line of duty in more than a century.

“We’ll never forget you. Always, forever, our Super Dave,” said Bolt.
