KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Almost one week ago, 11-month-old Autumn Humphrey was killed leaving a North Kansas City church. The young girl touched so many people.
“She is just a bright light and will continue to be a bright light,” said Pastor Tiger Pennington. “She made everyone better.”
Autumn was born nine weeks early and spent five weeks in intensive care.
“She was a miracle at birth and we are going to just trust in grace going forward that her brief life will continue to be a gracious miracle,” Pennington said.
Witnesses tell FOX 4 Autumn was in the arms of her grandfather when a member of the congregation lost control of his car. Two adults were hit. On Saturday, family and friends walked into the doors of First Baptist Church to say their final goodbyes. Even before the service started, Pastor Tiger Pennington said something amazing happened.
“As Richard and Amanda and that entire family embraced the driver of the car and said we forgive you, we know it was an accident and we forgive you and it was the most real expression of the difference faith makes,” he said.
Pennington says the road to recovery will be a long one but he’s hoping no one forgets little Autumn and the impact she made on so many.
Autumn Humphrey would’ve turned one-year-old in less than a week.
