KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Family, teammates and coaches gathered Wednesday at Landmark International Deliverance and Worship Center in Kansas City, Mo., for a memorial service for Jovan Belcher.
Belcher, 25, a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs, shot and killed his live-in girlfriend Kasandra ‘Kasi’ Perkins, 22, before driving to Arrowhead Stadium where he took his own life Saturday morning. Belcher and Perkins were the parents of an infant daughter named Zoey.
Four charter buses were used to transport Chiefs staff, teammates and coaches to the services. Teammates were still trying to process Belcher’s decision to take the life of his girlfriend and himself.
“Guys are going to deal with this on an individual basis,” said Ryan Lilja, Chiefs offensive lineman. “It’s going to be different for everybody, so you got to be respectful of that and be there for your teammates, and that’s what this is all about for us.”
Burial plans for Belcher were not released. Services for 22-year-old Perkins are scheduled for Thursday in Blue Ridge, Texas.
