KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A grief stricken family shared their pain after they say their 14-year-old loved one was murdered at a metro water park. Police say a passerby found Alexis Kane in a back area of The Bay Water Park in south Kansas City on Sunday.
Kane was the oldest of five children and was also an eighth grader at Smith-Hale Middle School. Family has been left devastated by her murder.
“She loved pictures, and if she touched anybody’s phone, she would always take a picture. (She was) beautiful, beautiful, sweet inside and out. She loved her brothers and sisters, fun to be around,” said Alexis’ aunt Shanya Kane.
Relatives say that on Saturday night she was hanging out with several of her friends. A family source said early Sunday morning her friends drove her to a 7-Eleven on Blue Ridge Boulevard.
Her friends reportedly told detectives they saw two guys with dreadlocks, riding in a white Chrysler 300 back into the store’s parking lot, force the girl in their car and speed away.
Right now a police spokesperson won’t confirm or deny the claims, but says detectives are checking them out. A source tells FOX 4 the girl had been shot to death.
Alexis’ family is praying, especially for the girl’s mother, and for justice for their loved one.
“She wouldn’t hurt a fly on the wall. She wouldn’t hurt anybody and for somebody to do this, it’s just cruel,” said Kane. “Our whole future was in front of her and it was taken from her, 14 years old. We’re just asking for help.”
Alexis’ mother, too distraught to really talk Tuesday past a plea for help, held on tightly to a picture of her daughter during a news conference.
