KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The family of a man shot dead outside KCK City Hall spoke with FOX 4 on Friday. Police said that 40-year-old Marlon Williams was killed by gunfire on Thursday.

Williams was murdered on some steps just outside City Hall. Municipal court is in the same building, the Wyandotte County Courthouse is across the street and around the corner, a police station.

You would think the area is safe with so many law enforcement people in the area. Williams’ family said it is one brazen murderer who shot him dead in broad daylight.

“It’s just not right, it’s just not right,” Geraldine Williams, Marlon’s mother, said.

Marlon Williams was shot in the head Thursday as he walked down the steps outside City Hall. Williams’ family said that’s where he was just before he was killed, paying traffic tickets.

“They just came and shot him down like a dog,” Geraldine said.

Williams’ family said he was not perfect, he had been in trouble in his life and he had even been to jail.

“He was trying to put all that behind him. He had gotten a job, just got a new car. He was doing well,” Geraldine said.

His family said Williams was involved in some sort of drug situation two years ago, but he was not arrested. However, they also said he had been living in fear for his life ever since.

A year ago when he was at his aunt’s home they noticed a man watching the house. Williams decided to leave and told his aunt to lock her doors.

“He had been there most of the day. We were sitting on my front porch,” Shirley Brooks said. “By the time I was at the stove, he was at the door closing it and he hollered, ‘Get down! Get down!’ And two bullets went off.”

His mother said after the first attempt on his life, Williams kept a low profile.

“He was like, ‘Momma, I’m not going to come there because I’m not sure what they might do,’” Geraldine said.

The Williams’ family said Marlon knew who shot up his aunt’s home and was set to testify at an upcoming trial.

“They was determined that they were going to get him and I guess they did,”

Not only did they get him, they took a father from his three girls and a son from his mother. She wants to know who did it.

“They don’t need to be there out on the streets. To shoot down a human being like that, they don’t need to be on the streets,” Geraldine said.

KCK police say they have no suspects in this murder at this time. A representative with the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office was asked about the upcoming case in which Williams’ family says he was set to testify. The DA’s Office simply said they have no comment at this time.
