KANSAS CITY, Mo. — KU & MU fans put hug emphasis on the game when they take the court! Saturday was no exception.

Fans from both sides of the state line packed metro bars to cheer on their teams. FOX 4 went to McFadden’s in the Power and Light District where the crowd was intense. It’s been more than two decades since MU and KU basketball teams played while ranked so high nationally.

Both teams are in the top ten. Fans say Saturday’s game was like a national championship and like a Super Bowl for the metro. This is the final season for the century old rivalry between Mizzou and the Jayhawks with Mizzou leaving the Big 12.

“It’s a big deal especially with the rivalry coming to an end,” said MU fan Tanner Beavers. “It’s the last time they’ll be in Columbia for an extended time it’s an extra big deal.”

“I’d say it’s a number one top priority,” said Brock Bulmer, KU fan. “We’re playing Mizzou. They’re good. It’s a top ten matchup and doesn’t get much bigger than this for KU.”

Sports bars throughout the metro like McFadden’s brought in extra food, drinks and staff to handle the Border War crowds.

MU beat KU 74-71 in Columbia.
