INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — A 25-year-old Independence man has been charged with 2nd degree robbery in connection to the theft of a car whose owner left the car running while she aired up the tires.
According to the probable cause statement, Sean A. Clark’s father tipped off police, telling them ‘he was positive his son was the defendant in the video on the news.’
Early Wednesday morning, Maggie Tatum, 32, left her 2005 black Chrysler Pacifica running and her door was ajar as she was putting air in her right front tire at the QuikTrip at 17815 E. 39th Street. Then she heard the door shut, stood up and saw a man get in behind the driver’s wheel. The man backed up the car and knocked the victim to the ground. She hit her head and he drove the car over her foot.
Clark’s father also told police he had access to his son’s Facebook page and said his son was making comments with his friend about stealing cars. He told police his son was staying in room #255 of a Blue Springs motel. He told police that on Wednesday his son was ‘f***ed up’ and he kicked him out of the house at about 4:00 a.m., according to the probable cause statement.
Blue Springs police found the stolen car in a Blue Springs neighborhood.
When they went to find Sean Clark, they found him at the Blue Springs motel. Police say they found a set of keys on a table in the room. The detectives texted a picture of the key ring to the victim, and she positively identified them as hers.
Police say the defendant told them he took the vehicle but said he did not see the woman on the side of the vehicle.
Prosecutors have requested a $50,000 bond.
