LINCOLN, Neb. — A 10-year-old boy in Nebraska is now in foster care after his father succumbed to injuries he sustained in a traumatic fall inside his home.

The boy, Peter Asumani, told investigators he had cared for his father for 10 days, feeding him and giving him liquids after the fall left him unresponsive.

According to the Associated Press, investigators went to the home to check on the family after Peter had been absent from school for several days.

Authorities were uncertain if the boy knew about 911 or if he sought help from neighbors or anyone else. He reportedly told investigators that he has relatives in Arizona and that his mother was in Africa.

Court documents indicated the boy’s mother could not be located, however the search for other relatives continues.
