KANSAS CITY, Mo – For kids, Halloween means three things: Costumes, candy…. and more candy. But for dozens of little Supermans and Elsa’s, Halloween meant a night in the hospital, so nurses had a few tricks up their sleeves.
This Halloween, Ethan Workman was the cutest Charlie Brown you’ll ever see. When he was a toddler, he had to have a kidney transplant.
Now he is only five years old and has spent most of his life hooked up to an IV, confined within hospital walls.
“Hi Ethan! Oh my gosh!” yelled nurses.
But that special smile was extra bright all day, for a big reason. All of his nurses surprised him, dressed head to toe in costumes. They took him and all his friends trick or treating.
Since most of the kids at Children’s Mercy Hospital are on a strict diet, crafts were donated.
“This is my dinosaur book!” Ethan yelled.
And we can’t forget the best part..
“The costumes!” Ethan said.
Spirit Halloween collected donations from customers and gave Children’s Mercy $7,000 worth of costumes.
“Charlie Brown and Snoopy!” Ethan said.
For kids like Ethan it wasn’t regular Halloween, it was better.
“I’d just like to say thank you to all the staff at Children’s Mercy that put up so much effort,” Ethan’s mom, Terra Workman, said.
Ethan’s mom worried about Halloween, but seeing how happy her Charlie Brown was took away her worries.
“Don’t know what else we’d do without them!” Workman said.
Everything given to kids was from outside donations. In total, over the past couple of years, Spirit Halloween has donated $130,000.
