KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A vacant house fire caused problems for firefighters on Wednesday morning after it spread to a neighboring church.
The two-alarm blaze in a home near 8th and Prospect started around 4:00 a.m. According to authorities, the house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene, and prevented firefighters from doing a search inside the house.
The fire caused one of the house’s walls to collapse on a neighboring church, causing it to catch fire as well. Firefighters say that the home was a complete loss, and the church was seriously damaged.
Neighbors say that the home is boarded up and vacant, but is often used as shelter by the homeless. They say that the owner of the home is an absentee landlord who has an address in California.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. There are no reports of any injuries.
