OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Police say that fireworks may have caused a fire that destroyed an elementary school playground over the weekend.

According to authorities, fire destroyed the playground at Santa Fe Trail Elementary School in the 7100 block of Lamar around 2:30 on Sunday afternoon.

Fire investigators at the scene believe that the fire was started by fireworks, and questioned some juveniles at the scene in connection to the incident.

There were no injuries reported. Investigators say that the blaze left an estimated $10,000 in damage to the playground.

Students will be back at the school from winter break on Tuesday.
