Authorities say that the fire broke out in the basement of the single-story home in 8800 block of Westbrooke Drive shortly before 10:00 a.m. Crews quickly extinguished the small fire in the basement, but a firefighter suffered a minor injury from a saw. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment and was released shortly thereafter.

Investigators say that the fire was caused by an electrical short in an area where a fan was plugged into an extension cord. They say that the homeowner was running the fan to dry water in the basement from Saturday night’s storms.

There was nobody home at the time of the fire, and no other injuries were reported.
