LIBERTY, Mo. – Tired of bumper to bumper traffic in the Northland?  The Flintlock Flyover in Liberty is in its final planning stages.  The overpass will be designed to reduce traffic on Highway 152 near Interstate 35.

The overpass will connect North East Flintlock and Liberty Drive over I-35.  For one thing, it will help get more than 5,000 Liberty students over the interstate quickly and safely.  According to MoDOT the big reason for the overpass is to reduce congestion on Route 152 for the average driver.

“My brother lives in Gladstone and hates to drive to Liberty because he gets caught up in that coming from the  central part of Clay County over to this direction.  He gets caught up in it, just doesn’t like it so he doesn’t come over as much,” says Ken Boschert.

Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2012.  It is scheduled to last about two years.  The Flintlock Flyover is a $21 million project.  $17 million of that is coming from the federal government.  The remaining amount comes from Kansas City and the city of Liberty.
