OLATHE, Kan. — A former Corrections Officer with the Johnson County Department of Corrections appeared in court Monday for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with an inmate while she was employed there.
24-year-old Alyssa Staats is charged with three counts of unlawful sexual relations. According to the case report, Staats is accused of having sex with the same inmate at least three times at the Johnson County Department of Corrections Adult Residential Center in New Century, Kan.
A spokesperson said the residential center mostly houses probation offenders. There are currently 250 people there.
The offenses allegedly occurred between June and December of last year.
A judge reduced Staats’s bond from $25,000 to $15,000.
