OLATHE, Kan. — A former Olathe school bus driver faced a judge on Wednesday, charged with inappropriately touching a young girl.
Police arrested 50-year-old Philip Brown on Wednesday morning, and by late afternoon, prosecutors charged him with aggravated indecent liberties. He’s accused of inappropriately touching a female student under the age of 14.
According to court documents, the incident allegedly took place on February 20 of this year and involved a female victim born in 2007.
A spokesperson for Olathe Schools says several weeks ago when district officials heard that police were investigating Brown, the district asked First Student Bus Company to immediately release Brown from all of the district’s bus routes.
The spokesperson also says the alleged inappropriate act did not occur during Brown’s shift, nor did it involve a bus rider on one of his routes.
On his Facebook page brown posted:
“I pray the victim and her mother will forgive a foolish man like me,” his post read. “I was not myself when it happened.”
“I’m so sorry. I’m not a bad man,” Brown wrote. “Please, forgive me. Don’t condemn me for the rest of my life.”
In court Wednesday the former school bus driver didn’t admit or deny the allegations against him. Brown did ask the judge for a public defender.
FOX 4’s Robert Townsend called First Student’s corporate office in Ohio for comment, but did not get a reply. Meantime, Philip Brown remains in the Johnson County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
