KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A five-year-old boy was shot and killed Saturday morning in the 400 block of North Elmwood.
Police were called about 7:00 a.m. to investigate a shooting. When they arrived on the scene the child was found in his mother’s arms outside of the house.
“Only thing she was saying was my baby…over and over and over again,” Monique Smith, a family friend, said.
Smith says the boy had been shot in the head.
“I saw what I believed to be the exit wound on the back of my nephews head and all the blood,” Smith said. “Then I was like this is really happening. This is really real.”
The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police believe the shooting occurred inside of the home.
The mother and her boyfriend are being questioned by investigators. Police continued their investigation.
Smith says her best friend had been fighting with her boyfriend who lives in the home the night before, but no one thought much of it.
“Everybody that knew them, knew that’s something they did,” Smith said. “They argued for a little while. Then everything’s okay.”
Smith told FOX 4 that she’s not sure what happened the next morning or who pulled the trigger.
“He was supposed to start school next week,” Smith says referring to the boy and how she was supposed to walk him to his first day of kindergarten. “I love you…hopefully I’ll see in Heaven once I get there,” she added.
*Police told FOX 4 that the child was four-years old, but family tells FOX 4 that they boy was 5-years old.
