KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Authorities say the young girl who was shot in the head in an apparent accident in a south Kansas City home last Thursday has died.
Trinity Ross was four years old.
According to new details in a police report, the shooting happened in a home near Birchwood Drive and Monroe. A woman was at the home, babysitting four children – all between four and six years of age. The woman told police she went outside to her car to get something and while outside she heard a gunshot. When she went back inside, she found Trinity laying on the floor.
The woman said one of the children had found a handgun that was under a jacket in a chair inside the living room. The woman said the gun belonged to the other children’s father. The woman said she didn’t know the gun was there.
Police retrieved the gun that the woman had placed on the TV. They say it was a 5-shot revolver with 4 live rounds and 1 spent cartridge.
Police have not identified the woman in the home– or the man who reportedly left the gun behind. No charges have been filed.
According to KansasCity.com, Trinity’s funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., and the service at 11 a.m. at Jamison Memorial Temple CME Church, 3115 Linwood Blvd. Trinity will be buried at Forest Hill Cemetery.
