WICHITA, Kan. — The Kansas Association of Broadcasters convention hosted a gubernatorial debate between Republican incumbent Sam Brownback and Democratic challenger Paul Davis.
The debate on Tuesday was the candidates’ fourth time to debate.
Governor Sam Brownback said he wants more power to appoint Kansas Supreme Court justices. Davis said Brownback is “exploiting” the case of Reginald and Jonathan Carr, whose death sentences for killing four people in Wichita were vacated by the state Supreme Court.
On Monday, in their third debate meeting at Wichita television station KWCH-TV, Gov. Brownback vowed to defend Kansas’ ban on same-sex marriage.
Davis said he voted against the ban as a legislator, but says he respects the decision of voters to approve the prohibition.
The back-to-back appearances come amid recent independent polling showing the governor’s race has tightened as outside money from has flooded into the state with negative ads.
