KANSAS CITY, Mo. — FOX 4 co-anchor/reporter John Holt and photojournalist/editor Jon Haiduk brought home the gold at last Saturday’s 37th Annual Mid-America EMMY Gala in St. Louis.
The pair won Emmys for two stories focusing on the recovery and resilience of Joplin following its massive and deadly tornado. The stories aired in live coverage that Holt anchored from Joplin on the one year anniversary of the May 2011 tornado. Both Holt and Haiduk were part of the team of reporters covering the storm when it hit Joplin.
A story on a t-shirt project that allowed Joplin seniors at the high school to express their feelings at prom and graduation won an Emmy in the ‘Human Interest-News/Single Story Feature’ category.
Another story on a church’s efforts to reunite tornado victims with their lost pictures and scattered memories won an Emmy in the ‘General Assignment Reporting-No Time Limit’ category. The pair had a third story nominated in the ‘Historical/Cultural-News Story/Feature’ category as well.
FOX 4 was well-represented for work at this year’s event, held at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown St. Louis. The following journalists were also nominated in a variety of categories: Susan Hiland, Abby Eden, Meryl Lin McKean, Rob Low, Tess Koppelman, Ron Kirsch, Rachel Coleman, Sarah Thacker, Cindy Hilton, and Valarie Topping.
The Regional Emmys are held each year, with entries judged by journalists and peers in other parts of the country. Emmys are awarded in more than 80 categories.
