KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Missouri Tigers head basketball coach Frank Haith was named as the Associated Press’ Coach of the Year on Friday.
In his first year as head coach, Haith led the Tigers to a 30-5 overall record. This year marks only the second time in school history the Tigers have posted 30 or more wins.
Ranked 25th in the AP preseason poll, the Tigers found their team ranked as high as No. 2 towards the end of the season. They finished second in the Big 12 conference, and won their second Big 12 tournament title.
Mizzou earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament before they were upset by No. 15 seed Norfolk State in the first round. Voting for the AP Coach of the Year award is completed before the NCAA tournament begins.
Haith compiled a record of 129-101 over seven seasons as head coach of the Miami Hurricanes before joining the Tigers this year. He is Missouri’s first AP Coach of the Year recipient since Norm Stewart won the award in 1994.
