KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City No Violence Alliance, or NoVA, has netted its first arrests in connection to a murder in Kansas City. The Jackson County Prosecutor’s office says three people connected to a homicide were arrested on Tuesday during Operation Clean Sweep, the first sweep using the NoVA system.
A friend of the murder victim says she’s relieved the suspects are behind bars.
“It’s just been very hard,” said Ebony Murray.
Since November 10, 2012, Ebone Murray says she’s lived in fear for herself and two young sons.
“I have to watch around and just make sure and don’t let that happen to us,” Murray explained.
It was on November 10th, that her friend Willis Todd was shot and killed at her apartment complex. She says she saw everything. According to court documents, Todd, who often brought food to Ebone when she needed it, was outside with friends near Lexington and Wabash around seven o’clock that night, he reportedly saw a suspicious car and called his brother.
Court documents show three men from the suspicious car made their way to Todd, his brother, and a friend, with guns while Todd yelled at them to leave. The three reportedly fired, and Todd was killed. Todd’s brother fired back as the three suspects ran away. Court documents show a suspect, Albert G. Chase was shot in the leg.
On Tuesday, police arrested Reginald D. London, Jr., Marlon L. McMillian, and Albert G. Chase during Operation Clean Sweep, part of NoVA, which promises to curb violence.
Ebone Murray says she hopes something stops the violence.
“I walk every where around to get us things that we need and take my son to school,” Murray explains.
The three suspects, are each charged with four crimes including second degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and attempted robbery. In court documents Albert Chase says he got scared and only fired behind him as he ran away.
