WARRENSBURG — It was a tough Labor Day weekend for family and friends of 25-year-old William “Blaine” Whitworth. Investigators say around 9:30 Saturday night someone shot and killed the popular businessman outside his home in the 1000 block of Sunflower.
Right now, police don’t have any suspects of a motive for the crime. Friends remember “Blaine” as a caring, kindhearted person, who last summer opened his home to not one, but two homeless men until the pair got on their feet.
Whitworth also offered the men jobs.
“He was a good friend. I’ve known him for several years,” said friend Nicole Bass. “He was my coach, my boss, just the nicest guy.”
Tuesday morning, 35 members of the Missouri Rural Major Case Squad met to assist Warrensburg Police with the case. The squad includes officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the police and sheriff’s department in Johnson, Pettis, Henry, Lafayette, Saline and Ray counties.
Police are asking anyone with information about college town’s first homicide in three years to call Warrensburg Police at (660) 747-9133.
Meantime, a visitation service for William “Blaine” Whitworth will be held Friday from 6pm until 8pm at “The Farm” 28710 s. St. Rt 7 in Garden City, Mo.
Whitworth’s funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the same location.
