KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Missouri Parks and Recreation says the city is losing trees. Old age, weather, and the fact the city hasn’t been replacing them due to budget cuts are just some reasons they are teaming up with the Dunn Family Foundation to boost the urban forest.
Ilus Davis Park in downtown Kansas City, Mo., is the home of the first tree planted by the alliance called the Tree Fund. City Forester Kevin Lapointe says the need is great to replace the trees, the city just needs some financial help.
“People who care about trees and want to help our urban forest can go online and donate funds to get trees planted on public areas in Kansas City,” said Lapointe.
The alliance is seeking individuals to donate money that will put trees on public property. The Dunn Foundation will then match every dollar donated — up to $10,000 towards the project. That’s something Amy Dunn Billings says is close to her heart.
“Taking more notice of what’s going on and wanting to give back and make sure we are continuing to take care of our city,” said Dunn Billings.
