KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Family and friends said a final farewell to 16-year-old Jalissa Reed. Reed was shot and killed at an apartment complex near 76th & Monroe in Kansas City, Mo. on March 16th.

Reed is being remembered as a teen who loved the Lord and someone who cared for everyone she knew. Friends and classmates say the past week has been a blur at Schlagle High School. One student said the school felt empty without the warmth and laughter of Reed.

The pastor made it clear from the beginning of the teen’s funeral service that it would be a home going celebration to shed light on the wonderful life the young teen led.

“God put her on this earth to be an angel and she made everybody come together,” said friends Brenden Wright.

Family members say Reed was active in her church youth praise team and dance ministry and that she served as a mentor at the boys and girls club.

“She could have anything, she could have been a judge if she wanted to be,” said her cousin LaWanda White. “She could have been a dancer or an entertainer. She had that type of light and energy. I don’t know what she would have been but she would have been great!”

Reed’s zest for life was put out when someone fired a gun from a car into a crowd of teens at an apartment complex where Reed was visiting.

“It’s going to be a long healing process for them and just as a family we are going to embrace them as much as possible and hopefully help them get through this,” White said.

Police are still investigating the double shooting that killed Reed and left another woman hurt. If you have any information please call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
