NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A mother is furious because she says her daughter was dropped off by a bus driver five blocks away from their house.
“I just know that her school bus stop is right across the street from our house and up the street, and that driver should’ve dropped my child off there. She was red, crying and really cold because she got lost for 45 minutes, “said a furious Bridgette Mayberry.
Mayberry told FOX 4 Tuesday that her daughter’s first school bus ride will be her last.
“The bus stop is right across the street. You can look right out of my door and you will see that bus stop. She did not get dropped off there,” said Mayberry. “She was lost. She knew nowhere she was going! She couldn’t recognize anything.”
The furious mom says her child stood out in the cold by herself, five blocks away, for 45 minutes until another school bus driver drove by, picked her up and took her home.
“I tried to tell the bus driver, but he was all the way up the hill,” said fourth grader Naveah McClean. “That I didn’t know where I am. This is not where I live.”
However, officials in the North Kansas City School District insist the male school bus driver did drop the fourth grader off at the right bus stop and did nothing wrong.
“Well, our records would indicate that the student did get off at the right stop and that when we visited to the bus driver and those students on the bus, she was delivered to the appropriate bus stop,” said Asst. School Superintendent Dr. Dan Clemens.
School officials say they are investigating the incident. Still, Mayberry says she will now transfer her daughter to another school.
