OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Emergency crews responded to a gas explosion near 151st and Switzer in Overland Park, Kan., on Friday.
Shortly before 8 p.m. crews from Overland Park Fire were called to the intersection of 151st & Switzer, where Atmos Gas reported a fire involving a gas line. Atmos crews digging in the area apparently struck a 4-inch line which started on fire. Flames shot high enough to damage street lights and nearby equipment.
Fire crews cleared the area and stood by, while Atmos crews worked to stop the flow of gas.
No injuries were reported. The flow of gas is being shut off. The intersection will remain closed while KCP&L inspects possible damage to utility poles.
