KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Salvation Army isn’t sure if a recent donation of a gold tooth found in a Salvation Army red kettle was an accident or on purpose.
“I don’t know if it was intentional or an accident – maybe the person was keeping it in his or her pocket and it came out with some change,” said Major Rick Carroll with The Salvation Army. “We’ll hold on to it, just in case they want it back!”
Throughout the years, they’ve found many interesting things in kettles: diamond rings, gold coins, silver bars, even four-leaf clovers. But Wednesday’s find is certainly among the most unusual.
Experts say a gold dental restoration could be worth up to $100 or more, depending on the amount of gold it contains and the current price of gold.
The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign began November 7th and runs through Christmas Eve. Donations to Kansas City’s Red Kettle Campaign are currently running about $50,000 behind this same time last year. Click here to donate online through the Season Pass campaign.
