Google is bringing its high-speed fiber service to Kansas City, but what about television? Some say yes, but Google still isn’t commenting.
Many people thought Google TV would be coming. When Google’s executive was live on FOX 4 a few months ago he never gave a definite answer. Even now, Google isn’t commenting.
Experts say Google will have to bring television services to the metro to compete with other cable services like Time Warner. And they’ll have to bundle those services, services like cable-phone-internet and TV, but Google isn’t saying how much they’ll charge.
What Google is releasing is a loose timeframe. Google will be available in some parts of Kansas City, Kansas in early 2012.
Google announced in March of this year that Kansas City, Kansas was their first location, chosen to be a test market for Google Fiber. In May, Google announced Kansas City, Mo., would be included in the project.
Google Fiber would speed up downloads to 100 times faster and 1,000 times faster for uploads.
As for programming, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Google’s television service could include programming from major channels like Disney and Discovery. No word yet if they’ll cover sports.
