GRANDVIEW, Mo. — Police are investigating after a man was shot and later died in Grandview, Mo., Monday night, June 30.
According to police, officers responded to the 6300 block of 127th Street in Grandview after several people called to report the sounds of gun shots. Relatives and witnesses say the victim was 41-year-old Greg Moody, and the shooter is a 14-year-old boy now in police custody. Moody’s family is now left without a husband and father.
“He would give his last to anybody. He would be there for anybody that asked him,” Sabrina Moody, the victim’s wife, said.
Greg Moody was said to have a big heart for children, he had four of his own ranging from 13 to 21 years old. Sabrina Moody said many kids in their Grandview neighborhood admired her husband and called him, “Pops”.
“He was the mentor to all these kids. We were foster parents to a child. The mayor wrote us a letter,” Sabrina said.
Sabrina said around 10 on Monday night, her husband walked to their 15-year-old son’s friend’s home behind their house, after they say a 14-year-old boy fired a gunshot into the residence.
Michelle Eicke said after the boy shot through her living room wall, he then shot her son’s friend in the hip.
“This is absolutely senseless on the part of the young man and it’s just senseless on the part of whoever provided him with the gun,” Eicke said.
“He was on his way back home and saw the kids up the parking lot,” Sabrina said about Greg.
About an hour later, relatives say when Greg approached two boys and asked the 14-year-old to give him the gun, they say the teenager shot him once in the chest.
The boys ran and Greg died at the hospital.
“He was like the ‘Pops’ of the neighborhood. He didn’t want to see none of these kids, not a one, not even the ones that shot him, he didn’t want them to go down the wrong path,” Sabrina said.
After the deadly shooting, police found two teenagers, ages 13 and 14, at a home in Kansas City. Both were taken into custody for questioning about the homicide.
