KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 22-year-old man Friday pleaded guilty to shooting and killing another man and wounding three others. All the victims were students at UMKC.
Alonzo Ruff told a judge that he was the gunman during a home robbery that happened in March 2013 near 49th and Brookside Boulevard.
During the robbery Ruff says he shot and killed Aaron Markarian, a student at the UMKC Conservatory of Music. He also admitted to shooting and wounding three other students in the house and robbed a fifth student of cellphones and cash.
In all Ruff pleaded guilty to 10 felony charges. In exchange for the guilty pleas, prosecutors agreed to a sentence of between 20 years and 30 years in prison. Before being eligible for parole, Ruff will have to serve 85 percent of the sentence a judge will impose in January 2015.
Prosecutors say Ruff acted with another man, Tony Williams, in robbing the home. Authorities say the two were looking for money or drugs.
Williams also faces criminal charges in this case.
