HARRISONVILLE, Mo. — A Harrisonville father is still waiting for the safe return of his three children who are 1,600 miles away in Canada.

The children, Jordan, Jasper and Tabitha Davis, disappeared in October with their non-custodial mother Sherri Lynn Davis O’Neil.  The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said the three children were taken from their Harrisonville home on Friday, Oct. 11.

Jamie Davis, the children’s father, earlier said he never had any reason to be concerned about his ex-wife.  For the last 3 1/2 years, he has been raising his kids with his new wife and her four kids. To his knowledge, O’Neil  has not had any contact with their children in the past three to four years.

The woman, her 19-year-old son by another marriage and the three children were found by Canadian authorities living in a Calgary shelter five days after they were reported missing.  Shelter officials said the woman’s story just didn’t add up and they contacted the authorities.  O’Neil has requested asylum in Canada, which according to Canadian law requires a hearing.

While the woman and her 19-year-old son will face several charges, Davis faces the uncertainly of when he’ll be reunited with his children.  On Nov. 18, he’ll travel to Canada to attend a hearing, but he does not know if he will be allowed to bring his children home with him.

FOX 4’s Kathy Quinn spoke with Davis on Monday about his first conversation with his kids since they disappeared.

“I wasn’t really prepared for the phone call when it came. It was spur of the moment. I answered my phone and it was Division of Family Services saying my children were there to talk to me and I’m like okay; and I just asked them how they were and if they were ready to come home yet, and I told them that I loved them and I missed them and that we’d get this stuff taken care of as soon as possible and move on,” said Jamie Davis.
