OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — More people than ever before will lace up and hit the pavement to help find a cure for brain cancer on Sunday, August 25th.
Nearly 5,000 people are pre-registered to run the Head for the Cure 5k in Overland Park; a record number.
Saturday was packet pick up day at the Overland Park Convention Center.
Head for the Cure Foundation chairman, Matt Anthony, said since the organization started 10 years ago it’s raised more than three million dollars for brain cancer research.
Funding goes to the 24 top cancer centers in the country including the University of Kansas Brain Cancer Center.
Anthony said he’s confident there will one day be a cure for the disease.
“Brain cancer is one of the cancers that is still without a cure, but as the doc’s who work on this every day, who dedicate their lives to the science of finding a cure, will say that they continue to be on an evolutionary path toward a cure,” Anthony said.
Registration for the Head for the Cure 5k will be available until race time on Sunday, August 25th.
The race starts at eight o’clock in the morning at Corporate Woods in Overland Park.
