LAWRENCE, Kan. — Lawrence police were called out to the Cedarwood Apartments, 2411 Cedarwood Ave. on Sunday to investigate a homicide.

By Monday evening, police were still on the scene securing the area around the third floor apartment, where on Sunday the body of a woman was found.

Neighbors who live down the hall from the apartment said there was a lot of fighting in Apartment #13.

“A whole bunch of bumping, whole bunch of noise going on. It’s crazy,” said one neighbor.

He and other neighbors said they heard a lot of screaming.

“A whole lot. It’s just crazy.”

Sunday night, when the fire alarms went off, another neighbor, Alexus Sanders said everybody in the apartment building was outside, except their neighbors.

“So they didn’t come out and then the fire people, I guess, went and knocked on the door and still no answer so I guess they just kicked in the door and found her there,” she said.

The Lawrence Journal World reports that if the death is a homicide, it will be the second for the apartment complex this year.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Lawrence Police Department at 785-832-7509 or CrimeStoppers at 785-843-TIPS (8477).
